Day 9- Jan 31st 2005 - Mauna Lani Fish Ponds & Puako Pools

[NOTE: if you're watching carefully, you'll notice I didn't take any photos on days 7 & 8. This was because I was laid up with back problems from the 4 mile walk yesterday (I guess I pushed a little too hard or something). It was nice to take "a vacation from my vacation" for a day or 2.]

This morning I woke up to the freakiest, loudest cackling noise I'd ever heard. It was the sound of wild turkeys!! Apparently, they roam all over the island.

After breakfast, we headed down to the Mauna Lani resort to the "hotel beach" they have down there. Nice beach, but boring snorkeling.

On the way to the beach, you pass the King's Fishponds. These fish ponds were reserved for keeping the King's fish stocks. They are stocked with mullet, and other types of native fishes.

Neal walking down one of the paths in the fishponds, and then "CLICK".

After snorkeling a bit at the "hotel beach" at the Mauna Lani, we headed back to Puako Drive and swam at the "pewls" (Neal calls them the "wussy pools").

A natural picture frame. This is the shoreline along Puako Beach drive, looking towards Hindle's old place.

After our "beaching", we headed to the King's Shops again for another hula performance. This time, it was just a single guitar & dancer. But elegant nonetheless.
